The Horoscope Writer by Elodie's Parks

Today we have awesome Elodie Parks visiting and sharing her books. Elodie please tell us a little bit about yourself.
I live in south east, rural England, but close to a famous city. I work with antiques on the outskirts of the city in an emporium. I have two dogs, Dalmatians, Celt and Chaucer and would be lonely without them (smiles). I love reading, movies and the countryside, that’s where you will find me when I am feeling stressed.
How did you decided to enter the world of writing?
I started writing when I was seventeen. I never did anything like submitting to publishers etc. until I was about twenty-five and then queried to no avail. My books had “too much sex in them” (smiles), which I found weird as a rejection reason, because I was reading Christine Feehan at the time and well…….. she has some gorgeous, paranormal sizzlers out there. I started writing again seriously a couple of years ago because I had so many stories in my head.
I write romance, contemporary, and erotic with a twist of mystery, suspense, or the paranormal, now and then. I like to make the story unusual in some way, by a quirk in the tale.
I have published three contemporary, erotic romance books to date. I have a short in an anthology coming out soon, end March 2013 and Eternal Press has just picked up my last manuscript. I am working on another book right now.
What does your family think of your writing?
My family who I very rarely see has never read any of my work and as far as I know they don’t know about it (smiles), it’s okay.
Where do you get your ideas?
People and emotions inspires me. The complexity of life spurs me to write.
I find the world harsh. There’s not enough love in it. Lots of people never find love. I write love stories with happy endings to spread a little lightness around.
For instance my book ‘Millie Reinvented’ was inspired through my day job.
I was talking to a young woman who was in the antiques shop where I work and she was buying a little sculpture of two lovers kissing. She said she had to have it because it was so nice to look at, as her husband didn’t even kiss her anymore. I couldn’t say anything I just wrapped the item, and stored the thought until the story burst out onto my laptop. I gave her a happy ending because in my experience they are hard to come by in real life.
Having said that, my book ‘The Horoscope Writer’ was inspired by signs along a country road when I was out driving one day in another county. I saw this for let sign and imagined who might apply to rent the workshop that was for lease. Then I thought about a lovely man who already lived on that lane where the workshop was and how he wanted love to come into his life.
The main characters just started to flow into my head and by the time I had driven home, which was a three hour journey through the countryside, I had the book and characters completely ready.
Can you tell us a little about your books?
I have three books published and so I could let you have a short ‘view’ of each.
Millie Reinvented, which is a book for women, a love story, an uplifting story for the lonely, there’s a little humor in it and lots of yummy sex.
Two of Them, a contemporary erotic romance that men might like because the two principal characters are men looking for love, lots of secrets and sex.
The Horoscope Writer, A deeply romantic, sexy romance, full of delicious sex, that shows the lovely character of the main male lead, Dominic. He’s my ‘wish he was real guy’, touch of paranormal in this. It’s a surprise type book, about love at first sight, and how strange coincidental things in life can influence you, and your thoughts.
I am awaiting a fourth book being published. The Last Time from Eternal Press.
I’ve also written a short (14,000 word story) The Picnic, for an erotic romance anthology that will be published in a couple of months by Moon Rose.
All my books are erotic romance. They have strong stories, but the relationships are fast and intense. That’s part of the style I choose. My books fall into the category of erotic romance because I do write the sex scenes graphically and that’s because I want the love the characters feel to show up properly in my stories.
What is your writing process?
I don’t really have one. I get an idea, the story drops into my head and I write it any time I have. Then I edit a few times, try to find beta readers and edit until its what I want it to be.
What was the hardest part for you when working on your book?
I never find anything that difficult because I am usually in love with the book. The one thing I can tell you is about my short, ‘The Picnic’ for the anthology soon to be released. I was told the word limit by the publisher. I wrote the story as it unfolded in my mind and whoa it was 1000 words over the limit. Then I had to start cutting it back, yes that’s what I find hard, cutting back. Although with real editing, I am ruthless. (smiles)
What influenced or inspired you to write?
I’m influenced by watching people. I meet huge amounts of people in my work and sometimes the dynamics between couples are very interesting. Also the countryside inspires me.
Do you have a favorite character (from you're book)? Why?
I used to think it was August in ‘Millie Reinvented’ because he is so endearing and loving. Then I switched to Dominic in ‘The Horoscope Writer’ because he’s so sexy, and yet vulnerable and constant in his love for Cassie. He needed love desperately and as soon as he feels it for Cassie he goes after it. He has a surprising effect on this capable, talented woman who’s been told by her family that she’s plain. They’ve rebuffed her because she’s an artist, and as you read the story you will see that Dominic and his strange ‘gift’ has somehow ‘plucked’ that fact from the ‘stars’. He’s not called The Horoscope Writer for nothing. (smiles).
Do you already know what to write next? Can you tell us?
I’m already writing another book, it’s titled The Winter Girl.
It’s an erotic romance, naturally. It’s set in the United Kingdom and has a touch of the magic and paranormal about it. It’s about a man who is basically, a ‘bad boy’.
He has a new girl for a season depending on what he has planned to do, and just as he is thinking he may not get a ‘winter girl’ along comes Lily. She has moved to the town where he lives. He’s in luck because she’s instantly attracted to him.
It’s a love story with a some very hot love scenes as he falls in love with Lily but in true bad boy fashion will not admit it.
Here are two snippets in Beta, The Winter Girl
Snippet, Their meeting:
Ash saw her looking at the cakes as he stood at the back. He was on the outside looking in through the back window, because he’d been tidying the garden that was open for customers in summer. He’d been bending to scoop up the stack of saturated leaves, and as she came in the door, he saw her. He leaned on the leaf rake and watched her drift by the semi-precious stones, and jewelry, until she had reached the coffee ‘shop’ area.
He took a deep breath. She was pretty. This was his winter girl come at last. He’d begun to believe there wouldn’t be one. His summer girl had been pretty too, but this one made his heart beat faster.
Ash leaned the leaf rake against the back wall, and entered the shop. Lily turned to the sound of the door opening. It was a sliding glass door that she’d thought was a window, and she felt a strange flutter of anticipation as she saw Ash.
He smiled.
“Hi, are you looking for a cup of coffee?”
Lily smiled in response.
“I’d love a cup of coffee. Are you open?” She looked around at the empty tables and realized the light was low down this end of the shop.

Snippet, Something from a love scene
“Come here babe.” He heard his own voice husky, but controlled. He saw a flicker of surprise in Lily’s eyes. ‘She couldn’t have known I was home.’ Ash hoped she would smile at him, but she didn’t, she simply walked to stand near him.
Ash forced what he wanted to be a hard expression into his eyes. He made a swift move and crushed her to his body. As soon as she was in his arms Ash felt it again, the overwhelming need to hear her say how much she felt for him. Any crumb of emotion in her words would do.
He kissed her mouth hard. Her softness and her response was intoxicating. She kissed him back so willingly he thrust his hips against hers. ‘Let her feel my cock hard for her.’
Ash moved his hands into her hair and held her still. He took control of the kiss. His lips devouring hers, he felt obsessed with stripping her naked. He wanted her under him. He wanted to slide into her, ram into her, pound into her until he was coming, coming, coming.
Ash pulled her damp sweater up and over her head. He dropped it at their feet. She was wearing that wisp of lace she called a ‘bra-top’ and it had no fastenings. He couldn’t take it this time. He took the front of it in both hands, and tore. He watched the lace fragment away from her breasts, and immediately needed a nipple in his mouth. He took what he wanted and listened as Lily gasped. He felt her move towards him. He knew it meant she wanted more, it always did.

Do you have any last words?
I love to write and tell stories that I hope readers will love for their complexity as well as the romance. I often hide a social comment or observation of how people really do act in real life within my stories. It would be interesting to hear from readers who notice them.
Elodie I can't wait to read your books, they sound awesome!
